I. INTRODUCTION

A. Palm Sunday (Luke 19:37-38; Matt 21:8-11 branches)
Luke 19:37–38 KJV 1900
And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. II. PARABLE OF THE MINA’S: Occupy till I Come! (Lk 19:11-27)

A. Purpose of the Parable (vs.11)
1. because he was nigh to Jerusalem
2. they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.
B.
1. The People of the Parable (vs.12-14)
a. The nobleman: Jesus (v.12)
b. The servants of the nobleman: Believers (v.13)
c. The citizens of town: Unbelievers (v.14)
2. The Nobleman’s Journey (v.12)
3. The Nobleman’s charge (v.11)
a. Provisions for charge provided (ten pounds (Mina) each; 1 lb = 3 months wages)
b. Expectation for charge presented
- “Occupy” is WHAT they were expected to do (v.15 “trading”)
- “Till I come” is HOW LONG they were expected to do it (1 Cor 15:58)
4. The Nobleman’s Return (v.15)
a. The Nobleman’s return clearly stated (v.12c “to return”, 13c “till I come”)
- 1 Thess 4:13-18 comfort 1 another with the hope of Jesus’ return
b. The Nobleman’s return undeniably promised (Jn 14:1-6)
5. The Nobleman’s Inquiry (vs.15-23)
a. Servants called to accountability (v.15)
- Rom 14:7-13 (12)So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God
b. Rewards for the Faithful servants (vs.16-19)
- These servants believed the Nobleman would return and lived accordingly.
- Their faithful service proved their belief in the Nobleman
Matt 13:23 parable of the soils;
Matt 7:16-20 our fruit tell of our roots, Good trees produce good fruit
- Matt 16:24-28 (27b)then he shall reward every man according to his works
c. Excuses of the Unfaithful servant (vs.20-21)
- This servant did not believe the Nobleman would return and lived accordingly
- His unfaithful service proved his LACK of belief in the Nobleman (probably not saved, tare amidst wheat)
James 2:14-26 faith w/o works is dead

- The Mina’s were set aside in a napkin (v.20)
- The Nobleman’s pride appealed to (v.21)
6. The Nobleman’s Judgment (vs.22-27)
